Exceptional Care. Trusted Expertise.

Boutique Psychotherapy & Forensic Psychological Services

At Opthof Center for Psychotherapy, we believe exceptional psychological care is built on expertise, integrity, and meaningful human connection. Our practice was founded on a simple principle: every client deserves personalized attention, thoughtful clinical judgment, and the highest standard of professional care.

Unlike large group practices where clients often feel like just another appointment, Opthof Center for Psychotherapy offers a boutique experience—one where every therapy session, forensic evaluation, and professional recommendation receives the time, attention, and care it deserves.

Whether you are seeking therapy to improve your emotional well-being or require a comprehensive forensic psychological evaluation, you can expect professionalism, discretion, and individualized service from beginning to end.

Meet Dr. Jerry Opthof

Seeking help takes courage. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, addiction, overwhelming stress, or simply feeling stuck, taking the first step toward therapy can be di cult. My goal is to create a comfortable, supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and respected from your very first appointment.

I am the founder and Clinical Director of Opthof Center for Psychotherapy. For more than 30 years, I have worked with adolescents, adults, couples, and families facing a wide variety of emotional, behavioral, and life challenges.

As a Doctor of Forensic Psychology, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC), I combine decades of clinical experience with evidence-based treatment to help clients create lasting change.

I believe therapy should never be one-size- ts-all. Every client brings a unique story, and together we develop an individualized treatment plan focused on your goals, strengths, and personal growth.

My areas of clinical expertise include:

• Anxiety Disorders
• Depression
• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) • Trauma
• Substance Use Disorders
• Relationship Issues
• Grief & Loss
• Stress Management
• Life Transitions
• Men's Mental Health
• Professional Burnout

I believe successful therapy begins with trust. My role is not simply to treat symptoms, but to understand the whole person while helping clients develop practical skills that create meaningful, lasting change.

In addition to psychotherapy, I maintain an active forensic practice, providing independent psychological evaluations for attorneys, courts, employers, and private individuals throughout New Jersey.

  • Insurance

For a variety of reasons, we do not participate as a provider in any health insurance or managed care plan. Limiting the involvement of third party payers allows the psychotherapeutic process to have a greater degree of autonomy and privacy. Additionally, we will keep your credit card on file and automatically accept payment at the end of each session, allowing us to keep the full focus of each session on our work together. Services may be covered by health insurance policies which allow participants to choose out-of-network mental health providers. Please consult with your insurance company to get the proper form and to find out where to submit your claim.
